What to include in a notice

So that we can find and check the material, your notice needs:

  1. Identification of the copyrighted work you believe is infringed. If several works are covered by one notice, a representative list is fine.
  2. The URL of each page, or other details that let us find the material, such as the channel or title name and where it appears.
  3. Your contact details: your name, postal address, phone number and email address.
  4. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
  5. A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or are authorised to act for the owner.
  6. Your physical or electronic signature. A typed full name is accepted as an electronic signature.

If something is missing, we will ask you for it before we act on the notice.

What happens next

We aim to respond within 48 hours. When a notice is complete, we check it and remove or disable access to the material it identifies. We may share the notice, including your contact details, with the person who supplied the material so that they can respond.

Counter-notices

If material you supplied was removed or disabled because of a notice, and you believe that happened by mistake or because the material was misidentified, you can send a counter-notice through the contact form or WhatsApp. Start your message with the words “Counter-notice” and include:

  1. Identification of the material that was removed or disabled, and where it appeared before it was removed.
  2. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification.
  3. Your name, address and phone number.
  4. A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address or, if your address is outside the United States, any judicial district in which we may be found, and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice or their agent.
  5. Your physical or electronic signature.

We send a complete counter-notice to the person who sent the original notice. If they do not tell us within 10 business days that they have filed a court action about the material, we may restore it 10 to 14 business days after we received the counter-notice.

Before you send

Sending a notice or counter-notice that you know is false can make you liable for damages. If you are not sure whether something infringes your rights, consider asking a lawyer first.
